Background: Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most potent therapy. We investigated the clinical response and regional cerebral blood flow changes in depressed in patients treated with (ECT) in a repeated longitudinal study.
Method: Forty-nine patients (21 men and 28 women) with a mean age 61 years underwent ECT. Forty-one patients grading improvement after the initial ECT-series (responder group) were compared with eight, grading no improvement (non-responder group). The patients underwent neuropsychiatric ratings, measure of clinical response (defined asZ50% reduction of pre-treatment depression score) and measure of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF).

زمینه: افسردگی یک عامل عمده در از کارافتادگی جهانی می باشد و درمان تشنج برقی قوی ترین درمان است. ما در یک مطالعه وابسته به طول جغرافیایی تکرار شده پاسخ بالینی و تغییرات جریان خون مغزی ناحیه ای در بیماران افسرده درمان شده با درمان تشنج برقی را بررسی کردیم.
روش: چهل و پنج بیمار (21 مرد و 28 زن) با متوسط سنی 61 سال تحت درمان تشنج برقی قرار گرفتند. چهل و یک بیمار بهبود یافته بعد از سری درمان تشنج برقی ابتدایی (گروه پاسخگو) با هشت بیمار بدون هیچگونه بهبودی (گروه غیر پاسخگو) مقایسه شدند. بیماران تحت درجه بندی درمان روانی عصبی، اندازه گیری پاسخ بالینی (تعریف شده به صورت بیشتر از 50% کاهش درجه افسردگی پیش از درمان) و اندازه گیری جریان خون مغزی ناحیه ای (rCBF) قرار گرفتند.
